Ottawa, ON – The Yeoncheon Miracle independent team from South Korea will not be making the trip to North America to play against the Can-Am League teams, and will instead be replaced by a national team from the Dominican Republic.
The Miracle were originally scheduled to be in Ottawa from June 27-29th but due to visa and travel issues the Dominican Republic team will now take on those dates.
Can-Am League commissioner Miles Wolff and president Dan Moushon recently returned from the Dominican Republic where they finalized details of the agreement to have the team participate in the Can-Am League season. Members of the team will be selected by the Dominican Republic’s national baseball federation, which also oversees player selection for events such as the World Baseball Classic.
“International baseball has never been more popular, especially with a memorable World Baseball Classic earlier this month,” says Wolff. “The Dominican Republic is one of the world’s top baseball countries, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to face the Can-Am League’s teams.”
As part of the 2017 Can-Am League International Series, the Cuban National Team will return to Ottawa on Father’s Day weekend, June 17-19th. The team will feature a number of players who led the team to the second round of the World Baseball Classic earlier in March.
